Need help ASAP
One of my agamas has a broken tail and I have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me? Can I doctor it myself or does it have to go to a vet? Where can I find a vet? I am so broken hearted I love my agamas very much and I don't really know a lot about them. I have only had them for a couple of months.
Thanks |

I believe they are butterfly agamas? Out of curiosity, do agamas have fracture planes like iguanas?

how did this happen... a pic would help me understand the situation. if there is just exposed area from a cut or something and the tail is unbroken then put neosporin or something to that effect on the area to prevent infection and to help heal the area

I was cleaning their cage and my son was sitting in the floor holding one them like always and Neki got spooked and jumped. It scared my son and he grabed for him and caught his tail. It looks like it is not broken in two. It looks like it just broke the skin around it because Neki is so fast to wiggle and jump again. But then again I am not familiar with this situation and don't want them to get sick. Do you have this tyoe of lizard?

i have kept agamas....and even caught many in the wild by grabbing their tails...in the correct way of course. This has never happened to me before but if I am picturing this correctly I would not worry too much. Put some neosporin on the exposed section to stop infection. Worse case is that it is broken...this could stop circulation to the end of the tail and it will fall off from the broken part... nothing much you could really do.
