Update on all rescues!

I figured I owed everyone an update on all the rescues I have taken in lately, so here it goes:

Wing and Prayer the two red tail boas that I took in on Saturday have severe cases of mouthrot and have started their antibiotics by injection, they were also given subcu fluids sent home with them and at the vet they were given an injection of vitamin mix. their faces are so badly deformed that their is no chance of them ever being normal looking snakes. THey are also so infested with mites that they were given injectable Ivermactin and sent home with a 6 week supply for more injections to get rid of them. Of course I have to give daily baths and daily sterilization of their enclosures and all areas surrounding them! YUCK, I hate little creepy bugs like that! I tried feeding them both one f/t medium rat both of course neither was impressed! the very few times they got food at the other rescue it was live! THey are also an estimated 8 pounds underweight according to my vet! It will be a long uphill battle but their rehab has finally started for them. Wing is a confirmed boy and Prayer is a confirmed girl, so that explains why that moron said they loved each other and were always entwined!! We all know their is no love shared between snakes. The vet did not feel any eggs inside prayer, Thank God, but the downfall is I was told that they can store sperm, so I have to watch for that as I do not breed and that is too hard on her body! So they stand a fighting chance

Patty: She had to be humanely euthanised to stop the pain and suffering!

Oscar: His appointment was bumped to this Thursday because my vet had only three openings for me so I had to take the worse first and after many phone conversations we decided it was best to take the snakes first! He has diarrhea which is starting to slow down, I soak everday in the tub, he finally is eating a ton, he still cries a lot and follows me around everywhere I go after he has warmed up in the morning and spent a few hours soaking up his lights and uvb, more info to come on him after the vet appt. on Thursday

Lucky the iguana with all the burns and respitory and Metabolic Bone Disease is putting up a fight but I am not sure it will help him, He is on antibiotics (injectable), sucue fluids, and cimetidine for his kidneys, he is still having seizures and is being force fed now! He also goes in Thursday for another exam and a quality of life exam

The other iguana I took on Saturday will definately live, his burns are not as bad as luckys, his respitory is already improving and he eats like a PIG, so obviously he did not have him as long, he also goes for the exam on Thursday. Now he is also on the injectable antibiotics and the fluids

Baby Dragon: (the iguana I got from him roughly 6or 7 weeks ago is doing better we have another week on her antibiotics and the fluids. The abcess did not go away in her dewlap so we wil probably have to have it surgically removed. She now eats like a pig and puts up a huge fight when it comes time for her injections! LOL So it is still an uphill battle for her to recover from the surgery!

Grizzly, my baby is doing wonderful!! I thought I was going to lose him there for a while but he pulled through after changing his antibiotics three times and he is still on them! I stopped the subcu fluids because he is no longer dehydrated and you can see no skin rolls on him and he is eating like a pig!

King Arthur the ratsnake is doing fabulous, he now eats three f/t mice a week and is filling out quite nicely! His burns are doing much better and he is just a huge sweetie!

The birds UGHHHHH... they are fine, noisy but fine, two parakeets found homes yesterday evening!! Yeah

I think that is everyone, of course not everone here as there is a ton more!

Oh wait the two baby iguanas are doing better with their fluids and I do not even have to force feed anymore, the eat like pigs!!!

Man I am tired!! LOL

Great job Nicole, It sure sounds like those animals will forever be in your debt.

I really am forever in their debt as they have definately humbled me! It will be very hard after their rehab to let them go to new homes as I have become very attached already!

Lyn, you asked me in another thread if he has kids, the answer is NO or it would have been CPS knocking on his door too!

great job and good on you for taking in rescues. Not just that but sticking with them like you have. Would you mind disclosing the name of and animal hospital you go to and the name of the vet for reference purposes? Im sure others on this site that live in your area could benefit from knowing of a local exotics vet.

the two different vets I use are Veterinary specialty center in Lynwood WA, they are the 24 hour emergency crtical care and trauma center. I use them after hours when necessary (which seems to be a lot lately!)

The other vet I use is Eastside Avian and exotic DR Kamaka, during normal business hours and they are wonderful team of vets! They are also the WAshington state Ferett rescue. Very caring, informative, and excellent at what they do!

Ihope that is of help!

Oh and the great thing is that they work together! So when I go to the 24 hour clinic and see them, he sends the info to Dr kamaka and they talk over the phone so she already knows whats going on when I get there! They work excellent as a team, which I think is hard to find! THe 24 hour vet is also excellent because he doesnt treat people like they are dumb, he always helps and has an excellent sense of humor!!!

They have been a little spendy to be honest! My vet is also great about giving me discounts! She only charged me a small office fee for Patty and the euthanasia fee. She did the x rays and the necropsy absolutely free of charge and is writing a very strong report on her abuse and neglect! It is all worth it to me! I am up to about 1000.00 with vet fees and the supplies I needed when they came in, I was already to the point of maxed out so I only had the supplies for 1 extra iguana and 1 extra snake, not for a tortaise, birds and 4 iguanas, and three snakes. The Leopard Geckos are already gone and the turtles are already gone too and also 2 parakeets, so that is nice. THe birds will be gone when the bird guy is done rehabing the ones he took. His are in horrible condition! I got lucky with mine as they are healthy, but the ones he took are not! He also gave me cages for the birds as the ones they came in were a tetnus shot waiting to happen! icky!!! I am a little luckier financially as we have a very good business and are van and trucks are paid off, so it opens a little more money for me. I can tell you we are not rich by any means, so out came the credit cards!!! I am just so grateful I am in a position to be able to help them, 5 years ago and I would not have been able to take this many! That would have been sad!

I tell you they have really humbled me and I will be forever in their debt as these animals are sweeties! (minus the birds )

I am not sure how humbled my hubby is as I just gave him a list if cages that need to be built that will take a good 8 weeks as he has to do everything perfect, because he shows them to his customers, Oh well he will get over it, he he he............ I hope he doesnt read this
