another question for all.

I own a Collard Lizard.

I was wondering what sand is best and why?

Cali sand or regular desert sand?

I currently have 2 5lbs bags of calci sand for her now.

I've read mixed reviews, but I would like some here, that have a good knowledge with atleast 5 years of experience w/ lizards

thanks

Hello,

I wish that stuff were not even on the market. Beyond its attractive appearance, that stuff is useless and is actually dangerous.

That stuff should be sold in hobby stores for people to use in "sand" bottles. lol

Ha, Yea, it questioned me when I bought it... but it was on sale, an I was limited on the moola...

so I went for it... I knew I shouldnt have, i should have stuck with papertowel till my next moola day,

So I shall get desert sand? by that same company or goto walmart, and get the kid play sand ?

How old is the collard again. If it is a baby or juvie, I would stick with paper towel or shelf liner. If its an adult and you are adamant about using sand, then playsand is better, you will need to sift it to get the rocks out. But as always,,the paper towel, newspaper, and shelf liner are always first choice for me.

I'd just skip the sand all together and use slate tiles and rocks, thats what I used with Satin and she thrived. She liked having a big pile of rocks that she could climb with lots of places to hide in at night.

When I have observed Collared lizards in the wild (they are native to my area)they were usually on rockpiles and hard packed sun baked clay and dirt.
Never saw a single one on loose sand.
