Here is the link to our collard caresheet it should help answer some questions: Collared Lizard Caresheet

I use to have a pair of collards about 8 years ago and the were the best lizards, my middle son (around 5 at the time) would take the female out and they would watch TV together.

Is that the temp in the basking area, if so, you need to increase it to at least 105, the rest of the tank can be 80-85. How big is your tank?

And a "daylight" bulb is not the same thing as a UVB bulb which is something that you need.
The term "Daylight" only refers to the visible color range it is producing.

is there a specific bulb to get?

Thanks.

I have a 40 Gal tank.

the daylight bulb I have is a UVA.

i also have a 13 watt UVB bulb.

You can raise the temperature by adding another bulb but a 150 wat bulb should be giving you an adequate temperature for a basking area unless the tank is in a cold area..
What type of thermometer are you using?
I suspect that you have one of those new spiral UVB bulbs. What you needed were 2 florescent tubes that run the length of the tank. The reptisun 5.0 is the old stand by but since you will probably need to purchase bulbs and fixtures I would go with the MegaRay Mercury vapor bulbs from ReptileUV. The initial cost is about the same but the bulbs last longer and put out much more UVB.

Yea I have those Sprial ones, I was actually looking at the Flourescent tubes. I will go for that today most likely.

uh for the thermometer, I am using those ones that stick to your tank, I think I made the mistake and putting it on the outside of the tank, instead of the inside.

Since I do live in Canada, we do have winters ha. so lately we been hanging around the -10 Celcius outside, and her tank is put in the basement which is where my room is.

I dont think my petstore sells the MegaRay, I know they have the Reptisun.

The megaray has to be purchased from ww.reptileUV.com they are the people that created it.

You need to get a digital thermometer. The stick on tapes were designed for aquariums full of water and measure the temperature of the glass wall, not the temperature in the tank. A good example of what I am talking about is an outside window of your home in winter. If you touch the glass you will feel the difference in the temperature of it as opposed to the air temperature in your house.

It should definitely be warmer, Satin loved to sit on rocks that had a surface temp of about 120 degrees.

Yea, I managed to find the Digital Themometer, in the Fish Aquarium section, yay.

its about 115 in the basket spot, and 85 everywhere else.

regards to feeding, I bought small pinhead crickets, she loves em, devouring them all up, no more throwing up yay. shes eating about 20 a day, and I dust they crickets before feeding, 1 day calcium, 1 day multi vitamin =).

She really loves the log I have put in there as well, she goes insane. in regards to the sand, I have just bought the regular play sand, until I am able to find a store that sells the coconut fiber

again, thank you all for answering my questions.

Those temps are fine. I forget, are you providing UVB from a decent florescent? I use Reptisun 8.0 at the moment.
