    Biological risks of eating reptiles

Reptiles are bred in captivity primarily for their skins, but some restaurants and population groups also want them for their meat. A study shows that eating these animals can have side effects that call into question the wisdom of eating this 'delicacy.'

Fascinating! I wonder about the dangers of eating wild-caught reptiles, such as gator. In Florida people eat (what I'm guessing is WC) Gator, and I'd never even thought that it would be any more unsafe than chicken or beef, but this does raise some concerns!

Seem like the principal concern is eating the meat raw.
But you would have the same concerns with any meat source.
As long as it is thoroughly cooked it should not be an issue.
Except for the chemical contamination possibilty.

If you live in a poor locale, your stomach is rumbling and your children are hungry, you eat whatever you can catch.
And in some places they are delicacies and some beleive that the eating of certain animals has a beneficial effect.
Many of the animals we keep as pets are food items in their native lands.
    Even hissing cockroaches!

The plate of iguanas makes me a little queasy- but in areas where it's the only readily available meat, go ahead... as long as it's been frozen and cooked properly, which I'm guessing a lot of it has not! I wonder if these animals are served in restaurants as well as eaten in homes?

You would not believe how many times I've showed my iguana the crock pot and told him to behave. Maybe I wont eat him now...I'll just feed him to my enemies.
