Not Eating Much?
My Leopard Geckos (they're adult females, around 55-60 grams each) aren't eating much. One is about to shed, and the other may be getting there, too, so that's probably most of what's going on. The temp down on the repti-carpet on the warm side of the tank is 96.4, temp on the cool side is 74.6, humidity is right around 30%. Stools are daily and normal.
When I got them 3 weeks ago, they had been on an all-mealie diet for the past 2 years. I added crickets and since then, they pretty much ignore the mealies completely, and on a hungry night they'll eat 2 or 3 large crickets apiece (I'm feeding them in a separate enclosure -- a Rubbermaid box lined with papertowels -- and I give them 15 minutes or so -- last night all they wanted to do was prowl around). They don't seem to like superworms (they tried them once, but ignore them now), and they gobbled down waxies when offered, but I know that's just a treat. I've just ordered some silkies, butterworms and phoenixworms for them to try. I'm thinking that if I can get them on a diet with silkies as the staple element, it may be easier for me to hand-feed them. Hunting the crix seems like more trouble than they want to go to some nights, lol.
So I guess what I'm wondering is, is it normal for them not to eat too much, once they're done shedding? By "not too much," I mean the 2-3 crickets nightly they were eating before they started getting ready to shed. I've seen sites where people say their adult Leopard Geckos eat 20+ crickets daily! Is a diet of mainly silkies (assuming they like them) and crickets good?
Thanks -- I know I ask a lot of questions!
