Tiles or reptile carpet?
Hey I have reptile carpet but its completely getting on my nerves with the worms getting under it. When you guys say you use 'tile' what kind of tile do you mean? And do you have to do anything with it after you buy it? Is it just floor ceramic tile or what?

I use peel and stick tiles from Lowes or Home Depot. You can get 1 foot square tiles for 78 cents to 1.25, depending on what you buy. I bought natural looking sandstone for my Leo. They are easily cut - score the "good side" with a razor, then snap it. You then cut the paper that is holding the 2 pieces together. dry fit first, then peel and stick.
It looks great, cleans easily, and the food can't get under it. If you really want to get a good seal, you can use caulk around the edges and where the pieces join. However, let it cure for a couple of days if you use silicone - that stuff gives off some MAJOR fumes. (I didn't caulk mine.) |

It is some kind of linoleum, I believe. As far as kinds, just go with what you want your setup to look like - brand names don't really matter for what we are using them for. They will have about 20 different colors and patterns. I went with the natural "style", but you could go Black, to really set off the leo's colors for example. The only diff. in the price is the thickness of the tiles. Go with the cheaper ones - not a lot of wear and tear under the foot traffic of a lizard LOL.
Oh, and you are very welcome ![]() |

I used tile for my Leopard Geckos a few years ago, however I left the paper on so I could take the tile out for cleaning as needed.

I use ceramic tiles. They looks nice and rocky, and naturalistic. I personally wouldnt use linoleum, if thats what the peel and stick ones are. Ive hear they give of toxins and fumes under heat, and also curl. but I think thats just because there was a discussion about them on a Bearded Dragon forum, and their temps need to be between 105-110. So I dont think it would be harmful for Leopard Geckos.

Since the hot temp over the Under Tank Heater in a Leopard Geckos enclosure needs to be 88 to 92-you might have the same problems using tiles with adhesive as you do with Bearded Dragons
Try and find tiles without adhesive to be on the safe side Some people use slate with washed play sand in between where the slate comes together Just my 2 cents Sandy |
