Does anyone have a slurry recipe for Leopard Geckos? One thing you can do is feed her baby food to get her appetite going again. You can try chicken and a type of veggie, also try fruits.

Hello,

A leo that loses that much weight is often carrying some sort of parasite. The leo needs to have a stool sample brought to the vet and is going to require medication most likely.

Other reasons for going off feed is inadequate temps and stress.

Okay after you correct the environmental stressors you should be able to jump start her appetite enough to sustain her until you can find the money for a vet visit from your personal savings or find someone who will take her and see that she gets the proper care.
First, get rid of the sand. No ifs-ands-or buts to it....get rid of it.
Next go out and buy unflavored pedialyte, chicken or turkey babyfood, some calcium, a multi-vitamin, some wax worms and a food processor.
Mix about a teaspoon of babyfood, a pinch of Ca and the vits, and 3 ground up wax worms together to make a paste. Next add pedialyte until you get a sort of runny consistancy. Suck this up into a syringe and drop on the geckos nose and hope he licks it up. Make sure the gecko doesnt aspirate the liquid. Serve at or above room temp.

THIS IS NOT A LONG TERM SOLUTION! You need to get this gecko to a vet and get it checked out. Being on a liquid diet long term can cause other health problems including URI's and death.

I hope that your gecko gets sorted out soon Lizard

I echo what everyone else has said - ditch the sad! good old paper towels suffice perfectly - they carry no risk of impaction, look clean and are simply to keep the evironment clean as you can spot clean them knowing that all trace of bacteria etc from urates has been taken out - unlike with sand where you can only scoop the poop and the urates stay put :yuk:

Is you leo pooping normally?? If not then it could well be impaction - nothing will sort the problem out faster than a vets trip but for the time being you could try some simple things to help her.

Firstly (after you ditch the sad) ofer her some of the slurry that Lacey has given you the ingredients for above - a little at a time so she doesn't end up over full too quick and end up regurging it all! Also, if she isn't pooping you could maybe try massaging her tummy and giving her warm soaks in a little bath - just to try and stimulate her bowels.

Please do try to tell yor parents that she is important to you and needs to see a vet - I know it is hard dealing with it when some people see Leopard Geckos as ten a penny but she is your pet and you love her

Best of luck with her and please keep us all informed

i just got back from a pet store...i know I know...but anyways there I bought a product called repta-aid...a friend told me about it...so I am hoping that it works. Later today I plan on moving her to a smaller tank with paper towels. I will be sure to keep everyone posted.

I would also make sure to put together the jumpstart that Lacey said. That should help a lot. How small of a tank are you moving her to? Dont put her in anything smaller than 10 gallons.
Try and convince your parents to let you take her to a herp vet. It will really help. The vet should be able to tell whats wrong with her, and should be able to help.
If shes not pooping, try giving her a warm soak, in luke warm water for about 15 minutes. The water shouldnt be any higher than her arm pits though. And you can also dip a waxworm in a little bit of olive oil, or vegetable oil, if she will eat it. Those should help loosen up her bowels, and get her to poop.
A fecal test is very cheap at most herp vets. Should be $15-20. But call them beforhand to see, because some herp vets around me wont do a fecal test with a new animal they havent seen before unless you get a full checkup...which is rediculous.

I got the repta-aid down her once.. i split the amounts in half so I can feed her morning and night. After the first amount she was quite active compared to how she has been. I moved her into a ten gallon tank with paper towels. I can't get her to take in anymore repta-aid but I'm happy I got it in her at least once. I will be sure to keep you guys posted.

This morning I woke up to find her dead. I guess this was all to much for her and to late. I would like to thank all of you guys for the help, but I do have one last question. What caused her stomach area to be green after she was dead?

I am sorry to hear about your loss. In my experience, once the leo's tail gets noticeably smaller, there is very little a person can do without a vet, and even a vet would have a slim chance of bringing the leo back to health at that point. Again- I am sorry a miracle did not occur in this case.
