It depends on the size of your enclosure. A 20-40W bulb should do the trick for an exnclosure needed for 2 geckos, but it depends on the size of your viv, what it is made of, etc.. You can allow a night-time drop, so a red bulb isn't needed, unless you want to view them at night without affecting their photoperiod.

well I am getting a twenty gallon divide into two with a noctournal bulb in the middle, Do you have to have a under tank heater or not? What if I just keep the light on 24/7?

I don't personally use a Under Tank Heater - we have a basking bulb for during the day, which keeps the basking spot at around 90f, and provides a good temp gradient for the rest of the tank, and at night we don't use any additional heat - the temps stay high 60s - 70f. It all depends on various factors - what kind of temps you have in your room, what the weather is like, how much temp drops at night.. have you read the care sheet located in the blue toolbar above?

You will be best setting up your tank/s with a bulb and measuring the temps to make sure they are correct before you get your geckos or before you set them up in there.

each gecko needs a warm side and a cool side in it's tank to thermoregulate, it would be difficult to accomplish this dividing a 20 gal. are they 2 males and is that why you are seperating them ??

I would prefer a undertank heater. One, they are ever lasting. Two, They are the best source of heat for Leopard Geckos as they get they're heat from they're belly, Three, they make temps in the cage go up as a light bulb would, except alil lower. All you really need is the temps in your room to be about 65 degrees, or 6 at the least and you'r geckos will be fine with a under tank heater with the right wattage. But it all depends on what substrate yu use also. Sand won't heat up much, slate if not seperated can heat all slate on all sides, and sand I don't believe gets heated up much at all by Under Tank Heater's.

Well a Under Tank Heater would be a good option, but it also depends on various factors - what is your tank made of? If glass you could place a Under Tank Heater underneath to warm up one of both enclosures. If wood you would need to place the Under Tank Heater inside and this is not recommended, unless you put one in each side attached to the side of the tank. UTHs don't warm the tank up as much as a bulb would, but they can make it warm enough for geckos. If you use a bulb you are best using spot bulbs, as they concentrate the warmth on one spot rather than a normal bulb which heats up everything around it - again, it would depend on the dimensions of your tank?-what are the measurements?
