Just when I thought I grasped Line bred, Poof.
So you have to breedMother to son and Father to daughter for hypos?

No, not exactly, to produce non genetic recessive traits you generally breed animals together that share those traits. even 2 un-related animals.
2 high yellows make high yellow babies. its a fact but it isnt a genetic recessive. Paul |

I think he's just trying to say you have to observe what colors are showing stronger in the parents and after generations of breeding these stronger colors with the same strong color you will get tendencies and a new breed.

The complexities of genetics
To confuse the issue further.. <lol>
If you breed a line bred hypo to a normal, what you will get are animals that have reduced patterning....somewhere in between normal and their hypo parent. Whether they can be called hypo would therefore depend on how much individual pattern they displayed. Tangerine is also line bred....breed a tang to the normal, and the offspring may have some orange, but not likely as much as their tang parent, nor as little as their normal parent. However, it's now being speculated that super-hypo may be a co-dominant trait. And jungle is NOT a simple recessive....though it's often treated as one for the sake of ease. In reality, folks aren't sure just what jungle actually is. If you breed a jungle to a normal, you MIGHT get some jungles--something that never occurs with a simple recessive....and some babies that aren't jungle, but if bred to one another down the line, produce jungles. So, rather than saying "het for jungle", we really should say "has jungle lineage". |

That makes sense to me.
