Is often shedding a good thing?

Spirit seems to be doing fantastically. She's also become quite friendly. She lets my daughter and I pet her, she doesn't seem to mind being handled too much and if she gets too active or seems scared, I put her back in her tank.

Anyhow, she's been shedding on average about every 10 days. This is amazing because Miracle never shed before she passed away. But this week, she shed twice. Is that normal? I mean within 3 days she shed again. And I know both times it was a full shed. She also does it fast. She'll start to dull during the day and by the next morning, she's shed. THe first time it was a three day process, but ever since then, it's maybe 24 hours. Today we actually got to watch her peeling her skin off and eating it.

She loves her moist hide and spends quite a bit of time in there.

Also, she still has not touched any mealies, no matter how many I've offered. But she eats crickets like no tomorrow. I go through about 40 per week or there abouts. The kids love watching her eat and yesterday she ate 5 in a row. I buy the small ones though, not the large ones. I gutload the crickets as well, dust them with calcium as well as leaving calcium in a dish in her tank. Is it ok for her to be sustained on crickets alone?

She's got a mighty fat tail, and she's absolutely beautiful. I need to take updated pictures to show you. I think we are on an upswing. I was so discouraged after the anole died, and then our other Leo died. Spirit I think is going to stick around for years to come. But I couldn't ahve done it without you all!

Shedding is a sign that your leo is growing, as far as I know there's no problem but I don't have any experience with one shedding that close together. I do however know that one of my CWDs insists on shedding every week and that it's not harmful, unless I've been given wrong information which sometimes happens. So, I don't THINK that it's a problem but I could be wrong.

AS Beth said shedding often is a sign of growth, so its not bad as for her diet try waxworms and butterworms but only feed them to her once a week. as they are high in fat..and im glad to hear shes doing so well!

From my experience shedding does usually mean growth however- Leopard Geckos do shed if they are losing weight
Any time that their is a change in their body weight they will shed whether it is gaining or losing weight
If your new Leo is as healthy as she sounds from your description- i would just say that she is happy in her new home and putting on a few grams
Leopard Geckos can exist on crickets or in some cases meal worms alone-some refuse to eat anything other than one prey insect but as was said-variety is a good thing
try her on meal worms also dusted with plain calcium(no D) in addition to her crickets
They can also eat roaches, locusts, silkworms etc
just make sure that the insects that you are feeding her are gut loaded
meaning that you have kept them in a container and fed them about a week previous to feeding them to your Leo
What goes into your feeder insects is what makes your Leo healthy
it sounds like you have a wonderful healthy new pet
Enjoy her for many years to come

Sandy
