Do they eat less during a shed?
Now I know spirit is new and all, so I'm not sure what to expect with her behavior. Given that we've not ever had a healthy Leo.
She hasn't eaten anything since that one mealie yesterday morning, and no signs of any bathroom patterns yet. (Meaning, she hasn't gone yet).
Do you think this could be due to her being in shed or just that she's not adjusted to her new environment yet?
I haven't been handling her, just sticking my hand in her enclosure a couple times a day for her to smell and then petting her back if she seems agreeable. She has been active, walks around, goes into different hides during the day, but she has not utilized her moist hide at all yet.
So...I'm being a paranoid mommy...

Hello,
She may use the MH at night while you sleep. Some of my Leopard Geckos won't eat while in shed and then a day or 2 afterwards. (They eat their shedding skin.) Thats pretty normal.
If you still have waxworms, feel free to offer them. Some Leopard Geckos will prefer "active" insects that are moving around. If the mealies in the dish are dormant and going into pupae (happens a lot), the leo may not find them "inviting". lol

Yes, I guess she could be using it at night. Maybe she prefers it cooler in there? I always make sure in the morning and at night to rehydrate the paper towels so that it's always moist for her.
I did just drop a mealie in front of her and she literally ran over to it to investigate it. SHe licked it a few times, but did not eat it. So maybe she just isn't hungry, due to her shed and eating her skin.
I'm hoping to see some bathroom activity though. That would make me feel better.

Hello,
Did the mealworm try to "escape"? If the mealie just layed there, it just didn't interest her.
Toss some mealies in the dish and add a piece of carrot or apple. The moisture source will normally keep the mealies pretty active. I suggest tossing in around 20-30 mealies btw. Not 5-10.

no, it just laid there, lol.
I have 10 in her dish, I'll add more, and I currently have shredded apple in with them.
LOL so if it plays dead she doesn't want it.
I wonder if that's why Miracle didn't like her wax worms? I had the HARDEST time with wax worms. THey never moved, or if they did it was really minute ya know?? And everytime I'd get some, over half would be dead and black. How do wax worms keep without dying?

Remember that Leopard Geckos are nocturnal Jamie - I noted that you said Spirit ate a meal worm yesterday morning. Toss some crickets and mealies in there for her in the evening and she'll eat them when she's hungry.
She may not be so hungry while she is in shed, and also yes, she is still settling in. Our geckos prefer to eat their mealworms and wax worms from the tweezers btw, and usually won't go for them when they are in a tub, so you can also try that.

We have a few who won't go after anything unless it's moving, and some who will eat a squirming mealie from your fingertips! Try the tweezers, but if she's still not hungry, don't worry about it -- she is, after all, in shed. Her appetite will improve, she's OBVIOUSLY an established eater LOL!
Oh, and some of ours use the moist hide all the time, others only when it's absolutely necessary. No worries there either, from the sounds of your other thread, she's shedding well.

Well, I just got to see her in action. There was a stray cricket out (usually they hide during the day too) and she came out of her hide quite interested. She missed, but I threw a few more in. I actually got to see her get all excited, flick her tail back and forth and strike (and miss, lol). But I'd never seen Miracle do that (get so excited over food, and the tail flicking thing). It was so interesting to see! I know I must sound really...lame, lol, but truly I'm finding her fascinating. That tail flicking thing is cool.

Hello,
The tail flicking is very cool. Males will do that when placed with a bunch of other leopard geckos. When he is doing it under those circumstances, he he saying that "I am a male". If another gecko in the enclosure is a male, he too will often do the same thing. That in turn normally turns into a fight between the 2 males tio establish territory.
Little things like that are very interesting. I for one don't think you sound lame. lol I love that stuff! (I have 11 leopard geckos. )

Hey Rich, got you beat! 18 and counting! (eggies in the incubator!)
We love watching the geckos' behaviour too. The most awesome thing is when you first put a male in an enclosure with a female for mating -- the males vibrate their tails just like a rattlesnake! A lot of our males do the big tail swish and rattle when they're hunting too.
BTW, nothing cuter than seeing a two-week-old hatchling do the tailwhip while stalking a cricket the size of his head... LOL!
