leo won't eat crickets and no feces yet after one week
Hi. My leo refuses to eat crickets at all. She will only eat meal worms. I don't think that they should be her only food supply should they? Also what does the feces look like? I can't find anything that would look like feces. I have had her for a week today and she has eaten every day at least 5-6 mealies a day sometimes more. I just leave them in her cage and she eats when she wants. She is active and loves to wander around her cage even with the lights on. She still won't let me touch her, she has stopped hissing but when I try to pick her up she strikes at me. She did let me pet her head but when I touched her body she gets all crazy like. Does their bite hurt bad? If I wasn't afraid of her then I think that I could get along better with her. If she doesn't go to the bathroom what should I do? and how often should they go? I have taken the whole cage apart looking for some feces to take to the vet for a fecal exam.
Thank you for your help in advance,
Cheryl

if she's active during the day, and she's not defecating, that could be a sign of impaction from the mealies. Maybe, maybe not. Try holding the crickets in a pair of tongs or tweezers and wriggling it in front of her face. You might get a feeding response from that. As far as what the feces LOOKS like.....you'll know it when you see it. Just a brown eh......thingy. with some white urates in it.
No the bites do not hurt, and most Leopard Geckos never bite anyways. Overaggression COULD POSSIBLY be another sign of her discomfort from a possible impaction.
Is she just out and about during the day, or is it like she's pacing the enclosure? A vet visit might be in order.

She only comes out at night when I am messing around in the herp room. I'm not sure what to do, is there anything I can give her to help her go to the bathroom? I shouldn't give her anymore mealies for a while right? How long can they go with eating? I will try to wave the cricket in her face. She goes around the cage looking for the meal worms, not pacing. I only gave her two mealies last night and then she walked around looking for more, she even went into the mealie bowl and licked all around inside of it. Also my roommate who brought her said that the pet store had her on some kind of clay like pebbles. Do you think that could be her problem?

I want to thank everyone who responded. I was reading over the old post here and am going to try to give her warm soaks 15-20 minutes in 85 degree water twice a day, with the water just above her vent right? A drop of veg. oil on her lips will help too. right? And trying to tease her into biting a cricket. If there is anything else that I should do please let me know. Could it be her temps are not staying constant? I am going to buy this product today http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.as...&N=0&Ntt=temps

it could be any number of things. soaking would definitly be a good thing to do. Go ahead and fill a small rubbermaid container or something with enough lukewarm water to go right below your leo's shoulders.
Yes, the clay pellets could have been ingested and now could be causing an impaction. I would definitly make a vet appointment asap if she doesnt start to defecate. Going 1 week without defacating is bad enough, but when you have a diet rich in chitin (mealies) and possible clay pellet impaction...it's probably safe to say that not everything is ay-ok.
Try and get an appointment asap and keep us posted. Hope the little girl gets better.
Good luck,

Hi. I had my roommate hold her while I put a drop of vegatable oil on her lips. I was getting her bath ready and she kept trying to get out of his hands. Well she went all over him which is bad and good at the same time. All I could I do was laugh, I am so glad that she went to the bathroom. Some of it was white and really hard, I guess that was her problem. I am still going to watch her closely. I still gave her a bath because she was shedding when I got home and still had some on her feet and head. It is still on her head should I wait alittle bit and let her try to get it off or should I help her with it? Also when they eat the shed do you think that they eat the moss too? I'm just concerned because there was little pieces of shed in the moss and I think if I didn't get it she would of ate it along with the moss. How often should they go to the bathroom? Mine is 5 months old so should I feed everyday or every other day?
Thank you for your concern, Cheryl

You should still be feeding at this age everyday Im pretty sure, It is very possible that she could have eaten some moss..this became a big concern of mine for my Chinese Water Dragon as they were always gettin greptibark in therir mouths, one way to prevent this is to take her out of the enclosure to feed, and as for the shedding you should wait a couple of days and if it dosnt come off then help her...I would say saok her everyday until her shed is over..it really helps my CWDs alot...and im glad she finally went to the bathroom!! LOL....even if it was all over your roommate XD
