I'd say with all reptiles/amphibians when first handling you should aproach them slowly, to assure them you aren't a predator. Be sure of yourself in this process, because they may misinterpret your nervousness as predatory anxiousness. Pick them up gently, but firm enough that you wont have to go on a 72 hour reptile hunt in your own house....I'd imagine a baby gecko could find it's way into a very tight hiding spot.

In most cases with a newbie I just put my hand in the cage and let them come to me. This way they know you are not a threat. Just take it slow. You'll be fine.

Remember to her you are a great big predator. Give her time, she'll start to realize you are not a threat to her.

Be patient! Event though they are born into captivity they are still wild animals. Baby lizards are high on the menu of everything that comes near them!

I've always tempted my geckos to me by feeding them titbits out of me hand. It seems to have worked for me as they will walk straight onto my hand when I put it into their tank now.
