    Shedding Problems

I have a one year old baby gecko. He is in a 10 gallon with a calcium carpet. He has both his uvb and uva lamps, they are just set on top of the enclosure. He has a small water bowl and every so often I put moist moss in the tank, usually though it drys out real fast and just makes a mess. His tank is in a bathroom so he does still get plenty of humidity.

He has never had a problem shedding before but this time though the skin on the top of his head is not coming off. In fact it looks like it is stuck to, almost like to malting into the new skin. I see him trying to get it off as best he can but its not working. I've tried to pick at it but I don't want to rip it off and he is very sensitive when I touch it so I try not to irritate him. It is not over his eyes or his ears, those areas are fine.

It has been there for over a week now, how worried should I be?
Is there anything I can do to help him or will it just come off on his own time?

    Re: Shedding Problems

I would try a bath and see if that softens the skin. What the temp of the cage? With Leopard Geckos they don't need the UVB and UVA bulb heat is the most important thing for them. There is a spray that you can get at pet store that is made to help with the shed if they are having a hard time. That's has always worked for my two Leopard Geckos if the bath does work.

    Agreed - try a bath/sauna:

    Gecko Sauna

I would also consider giving this a read as there are some things with husbandry that appear off:

Leopard Gecko Care Guide (Eublepharis macularius)

Yeah, I would try to use some water, or give it a reptile safe bath. I don't think you should worry to much though it may happen several times, especially because its a baby.

Please bare with me, I don't want to be harsh. But you are having trouble because you are over humidifying your Leo. I would take out the moss, as this can be digested. Start with moist paper towel instead. I would also move your Leo away from extra humidity. A Leo needs to be moved to a 20 gallon size tank after they become an adult. I also would see a vet to finish this shed. I hope this helped.
