Ok, firstly, it's good that it is eating something, but mealies aren't a great staple as they can be difficult to digest. Have you tried crickets, or the odd wax worm?

You still haven't said how it is housed - singly or with other geckos? Temps, water bowl, hides, moist hides, etc?

Also, stuck shed on eyes is very bad - this can eventually lead to blindness if not sorted out. Has it any skin stuck anywhere else? What have you tried to rectify the situation?

Apart from eating and shedding, how is it otherwise? - defacating normally? Active/lethargic?

I really must urge you to seek out a vet closer by - if not needed now it is likely that one day you will need a vet for something and it is always good to be prepared and know where and how you can get to one.

If you can not see it's eyes something is seriously wrong.

Hello,

I suggest taking a tupperware container, and adding roughly 1/2 inch of 85 degree water to the botom of it. Place a small article in there,(for the leo to climb on) and then place the leo in there. SIT the cover on the top. Don't seal it, but just let it rest on the top. Leave the leo in there for 15 minutes.

Take a warm, moist face cloth and gently wipe over the eye area. You don't need to apply pressure. If the humidity chamber you created did its job, the towel should remove the retained shed.

If the retained shed on the eyes is still there, refill the container and repeat.

Does the room the leo resides in have an AC or central air? Beyond blowing out cool air, AC's also remove humidity from the air. Retained sheds are often a result of inadequate humidity.

Please be very careful around the eyes, the advice you have received is all very good, but unfortunately human instinct is to pull on a loose piece of skin to remove it from a reptile, avoid doing this, I like the moist towel trick and have used it successfully many times with my snakes. I caution you because one of my ball pythons came to me blind because the owner was told to remove the stuck eyecaps with metal tweezers. After two years of care and many trips into the warm moist towel to remove stuck shed she is just now regaining her vision.

Any vet should be able to help you woth this problem it doesn't have to be a herp specialist, in my area there are even vets who specialize in eye problem for dogs that will see any type of animal (it's good for their business) Check your local yellow pages and start making phone calls, the worst they can say is that they can't help you, but I'm sure there will be at least one who will say yes.

Hello,

Physically removing the skin by force is not an option. The humidity chamber will soften the retained shed. It may take several trips to the humidity chamber, but it will soften the shed. The moist towel is rough enough that it will gently slide the shed away.

This is the safest way to remove retained shed. (The Q-tip also works, but some people have a tendancy to push too hard. Sinxce a Q-tip is a solid object, it can damage the eye if it is pushed too hard.

The moist towel on the other hand is "limp". You are just running it over the area with no pressure. You are less likely to apply overt pressure using this technique.

Keep us posted and please try the above mentioned techniques.

Hello,

Have you gotten the retained shed off yet? Have you started trying the aforementioned suggestions?
