Geckos, too

Well, we did purchase a bearded dragon at the Raleigh show for our older daughter. But for Leah, our younger daughter, we bought two leopard geckos. They are both supposed to be females, but she named them Ezma and Cronk. We only have a picture of one (my dad was in charge of the photos, it is his camera...). The other one looks completely different, she's an albino.

Leah was so excited tonight, she finally got to see them eat their crickets! They were so secretive before. The other one looks a lot like MJ's Carmen.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of Leopard Geckos. Most sold on the market are females as the birth ratio is @ 10 females per male. so most breeders keep the males to raise more. WHne we purchased ours there were 16 in the tank, all 16 female. If someone has better info on this please let me know

I think most folks incubate for female since I assume females are usually more valubale but I'm not positive, perhaps somebody can add something?

Look at breeder prices for males,,,,seems to me that the breeders try to hold em.
Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong (which according to my wife and kids is quite often) LOL

On Ron Tremper's site the 6"+ albinos are the same price for either gender *scratchs head* When I said I was assuming females were more valuable I was basing that on the fact that most female animals are considored more valuable due to the fact that they "put more into" the production of offspring. Perhaps this is not so with geckos because you can keep harems with one male as opposed to some oviparous snakes where pair mating is the accepted system and the females are almost always more valubale than the males?
