The regurge of undigested worms, can like everyone has said, be caused by eating too many...too fast. But again when accompanied with the other symptoms, I agree a vet check & fecal is in order. |

Hello,
A healthy leo can easily consume 5-8 mealies in a sitting without dilemma. I feed crickets, mealies, waxworms, and supers regularly. I too, like Herpmom, leave a dish of mealies in the enclosure at all times. My Leopard Geckos average 10 mealies a piece, per day.(Inaddition to whatever insect was actually the "feeder" for that day.) They don't regurgitate them though. (Thats the average of how many I replace. Some days less, some days more.) There is a huge misconception with mealworms and their chitin. It is indeed harder to digest than say that of a cricket, but it isn't as bad for a leo as some beieve. Healthy Leopard Geckos can digest mealies without a problem. Chitin or no chitin, their digestive acids are more than capable of breaking it down. Do I suggest that they be the staple of the diet, no. They can be and some do use them as the staple, but my reasoning is nutritional opposed to the chitin. Regurgitation can happen if a leo eats too many, in too short a period of time. Most Leopard Geckos won't eat too many though if they are fed regularly. The other common reason is temperatures. Once those items are marked off and are deemed ok and don't appear to be the problem, you look at the stool and have a vet look at the stool. I hope everything checks out good for you and it was just a gluttonous leo taking in more than he can handle. |
