What Medium to Use in Lay Box and Egg Box for Incubator?

Hi everyone, looking to experienced breeders to find out what they fill their lay box and incubator egg boxes up with? I heard something about vermiculite but I tried to locate that at a garden centre and they only sell it mixed with potting soil, not sure if that would work or no?

    Any other options?

I fill my layboxes with moist paper towels. These guys have been known to ingest loose substrate used in their enclosure.

I successfully incubate my eggs in sealed plastic containers filled with a mix of 1 part perlite to .8 parts water. Do not poke holes in the container, but remove the lid briefly once a week to allow air exchange. I have also used this ratio with vermiculite instead of perlite with success. I prefer perlite because hatchlings stand out better against the bright white color of it (My main incubator has windows, but is dark. I like to be able to check on my eggs/hatchlings without disturbing them.). I buy perlite at local garden centers and online.
