    Leopard Geckos Stink!!!

ok so i never realized how much they actually stink until i built my rack and put them in tubs....you dont really notice the stink until i open the tubs to feed them or what not. i do a full cleaning of their tubs once a week and change their paper everytime they poop. but wow do they still stink.

anyone else have this issue? or know of a way to CONTROL(cause you cant eliminate it) the odor any products that people use? i already have a febreeze thing in the room and use a pet odor control powder on the carpet when i vacuum

It sounds like you might need better ventilation in the tubs themselves! Or just in the room. My single Gecko is in an open top cage and she doesn't stink at all. Well compared to if I was keeping a rat they're really bad.... Hardly any smell at all from Mindy.

volkert13b, I know exactly what you mean, I have 11 adult Leopard Geckos and two adult AFT's not to mention my snake collection. And let me tell you it does get very stinky....and what’s worse is when they poop at the same time.....

The only thing that has worked for me is a Holmes Mini tower air purifier unit. Its small, its filter has Arm & Hammer baking soda, and it purifies the air quality. The only thing is that I change the Air Filter every other month just to be on the safe side.

You can always get little boxes of baking soda and open them and let them sit there, it may sound kinda stupid but it works. The stench of my animals has drastically reduced when I put 2 boxes in my room, and I have an Iguana, 3 leopard geckos, 2 crested geckos, 2 chameleons, and 8 firebellied toads in my room. Oh and not to mention a smelly old dog XD. I also used this stuff called "Stink-Away" by ESU Reptile and it worked. I found it at this petstore...I don't think Petco or Petsmart sells them. Also, if you put extra paper towels where they poop ( like my leopard geckos only poop in a certain corner) you can change the paper towels when they poop :P. Good Luck!

I found that an air purifier has worked wonders for our apartment. It wasn't so bad with just Toothless, but once Drizzt and Norbert were in the picture something had to be done.

That sounds like a bio hazard nightmare, I've been kicked by 2 Bearded Dragons and it was bad. I can only imagine 5 Bearded Dragons. I think I'll stick to my Leopard Geckos.

I use repticarpet and have no stink with 7 leopard geckos. Try checking your humidity. Sow bugs help to because they eat poop. >_<
