I have a really nice rock from outside my house that I want to use as a basking rock. I am going to boil it for 30 minutes and then bake it at 350F for another 30 minutes to sterilize it. However, it has jagged edges. I think you can use portland cement to make rocks smooth or Bondo. Can someone confirm that this would be safe for my leo? I would make a fake rock, but according to the articles I have read, it's alot of work for just one rock. But then again, I was thinking I could make the whole floor out of fake rock.

Also, is there any kind of sand that I could use for substrate that would be safe. Don't tell me that calci-sand or playground sand is safe, because I have reservations about using that stuff. Last time I was at Home Depot, I think I saw sand that each grain was only .2mm thick, but I am not sure.

Any ideas anyone?

I wouldn't advise you to use any type of granular substrate. Playing with the chance of impaction is risky business.
Rocks from outside are ok to use if they are sterilized first. I would try to round the jagged edges some if possible. You could get a masons stone and see if that works. (Its a honing stone used for sanding brick.)
