Whats He Looking For?
In my gecko, Fuzzys humid hide, I have a forest floor bedding, and I recently looked in it and I saw that he had piled up all the dirt in front of the entrance and almost had the bottom exposed. The possible explanations I've come up with are: hes cold and wants to plug to hole where the heat escapes (the warmest part is only 75* and I can't convince my parents to do anything about it) Hes looking for food (probably the most likely) hes looking for moisture (i sprayed it when I saw him digging) So what do you think it is?

Re: Whats He Looking For?
Not an expert but my Leopard Geckos dig in thier moist hide. I have no idea why but it's what they like to do so I leave them alone. But seriously your temps are a little to low. Your Leopard Geckos need a temp of 85-90 on the hotside.

Re: Whats He Looking For?
Add a simple house hold bulb (40 watt or so) above the cage. This will increase ambient temps. Where are you reading the temps? They need belly heat to properly digest. Put your thermometer on the floor where the hot spot is. This will give you a more accurate reading. I you place the lamp over the hot spot, this will help warm it up even more. See if you can't find a shop light somewhere in your house, other wise a desk lamp would work too.
Print out a copy of our care sheet and give it to your parents with the temperatures highlighted. Hopefully education will help.

Re: Whats He Looking For?
Thanks, my thermometers are a few inches off the ground, I will reposition them close to the floor. I used to have a turtle, and his old lamp with a regular bulb (cfl should work too, though, right?) should be just fine

Re: Whats He Looking For?
The compact fluorescent light bulbs do not produce the heat that the ordinary bulbs do. The CFL's use less electricity and therefor produce less waste (heat).
How long have you had this Leo and has it ever been housed with any other Leopard Geckos? The digging out of one location like that is typical of a gravid female. She will pile everything up and then lay her eggs and cover them with the pile she created.

Re: Whats He Looking For?
Just use a regular house bulb. Cheap and easy.
