Journey into Leo Land

my reptile list is slowly growing. they're so addictive. someday I hope to get a leopard gecko for myself. i don't have anyplace to put a tank at this time plus I don't have that much money wise. but i'm sure it'll happen in the future. (hopefully near future lol) i always look on the lizard forums cuz I like them after snakes and the Leopard Geckos are the ones I like the best. so after seeing all the great pics of them and reading alot of the posts i'm really considering one. i've been really interested for the past couple days and i've read the caresheet on here for them. but I just really wanted to know what I would need. i just want one so i'd like to know what size tank and everything. i am going to make a list of everything so that when i'm able, i'm going to get everything for the gecko before I even purchase it. i'd like to know temps and all that stuff too. thanks in advance for the info. it might be a long while before the gecko even makes its way into the house but I just want to be ready in advance!

We have 2 females in a 20 gallon long. we use a Under Tank Heater and a basking lamp on the warm end (lamp on during day) and have a hide and moist hide on that end. The cool side has a hide also to allow for thermoregulation. we also have a "night red" light that we turn on at nite to watch em hunt and turn off when there done. We have a shallow water dish and a small shallow dish with calcium. They designated an area in 1 corner for a bathroom so we put napkins there and just change it each day. We also buy crickets by bulk and use calcium enriched gutload and fresh fruit/veg for them. Once a week we let the Leopard Geckos have a few waxworms for a treat

so they need a basking lamp and a heat lamp or are they both the same thing? i'm probably going to end up using a 20 long gallon aquarium is that okay for their entire life? and is 50 watts good, or should it be more or less? how about temps? the light would just be for heat right cuz they don't need any special light? exactly what kind of calcium and supplements do they need? i just want everything to be right.

Mine has Under Tank Heater and is a 20 gallon long by its self and several hide spots for her. No UVB is needed for about all geckos. I think a 20 gallon would be great for your gecko. Day 80*F and night 75*F. I put calicium/phosphorus on the crickets every time, but some people say to dust the crickets once a week. Hope that helps

Hiya DM, great choice, wish I would of got one of the little guys sooner, I am just starting out too, they are a little joy to have, I keep Oscar in a rubbermaid at the moment, around 10 gallon, I have temps at around 78, and 90 on the basking area, he has settled in great, he has a moist hide and another little hide on the warm side, and a hide on the cool, like ken I have a little cap of pure calcium and a shallow dish of water, last night was his first time out and about properly as I think he has just shed, he was in his moist hide 99% of the time now he isnt using it, and he did look a bit dull and wrinkly lol, now he looks fresh and bright, don't know for sure if he did tho as they eat their shed, hope you enjoy your new little guy when you get him/her, and I am impatiently awaiting pics...

is there a name for a good calcium brand or anything like that? since I work at a pet store I can keep an eye out for stuff i'd need. i am impatiently waiting myself since I have to take a good look around my room and figure out how in the world I will be able to fit a fourth tank in my room somewhere. i'm sure i'll figure it out eventually. probably won't have pics for awhile... but when I am able to get all this stuff figured out there will be tons of pics!

I don't know whether you have same brands as us here, I use one called calypso, im sure there are lots of other brand names, maybe Ken has the name of the one he uses.

I always find room I have 17 cages in my room, plus a bird cage and all my T tanks lol, I bet you will figure something out soon.

I use a brand called repcal calium with d3 and without d3 (seperate bottles)
I use repcal's herpivite for vitamins.
Repcal is one of the most used by herpers I hear.

If you are interested in a normal or high yellow leo, please pm me... I will sell for 15 dollars and you pay shipping. To be honest, I am getting bored with these two Leopard Geckos and am looking to get rid of them for other reptiles. Don't worry, I still care for them properly as I do with all of my geckos and herps.
