Cleaning cages?

Why do my leopard geckos always act like I've dropped them off on Mars after I clean thier cages, even if I put everything back EXACTLY where it was before?

Come on I was being serious! When Duke was a baby he'd throw absolute fits whenever I cleaned his cage and refuse to eat for like 2 days. Now they all just fuss and prowl around and taste everything and climb the walls and act like they've never been there before.

Talyn and Monty both vibrate their whole bodies (really!) whenever I clean their terrariums. I think it's just that you've taken "their" smell out and it's like putting them back into completely unknown territory. I don't know about geckos, but that's the way it is with my snakes.
They usually explore the whole thing (every inch) high and low before finally picking a hidebox to snuggle into.
