Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

I'm sorry, but I'll believe the 55 year old over the 16 year old any day.

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

Well there's the answer. He's just a kid. I did tons of dumb things when I was 15. I was lucky I could tell one end of a gecko from another. Intellegence and experience will come in time, send him over here if he wants to help his reptiles live long healthy lives.

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

Oh no, In no way was I taking my friends word over merlins, I was just correcting merlin in telling him that he has had his lizards for quite some time. Also that the leo, uro and plated have lived together for 3 years without any problems(somehow):confuse d:

Also hes been heavily into herps since he was 9. Lmao

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

I find it really hard to believe that all those lizards live together with no problems. Please listen to Liz and Merlin they really know their stuff, if you want a healthy animal.

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

Relax Anthony, nobody is jumping you. When I was 16 I thought I knew it all.
Boy was I WRONG!!
What I am trying to say is having an animal for 3-4 years does not mean that you are taking proper care of it. Reptiles are tough! They can survive quite a long time with mistreatment and bad care. But as responsible keepers having them just survive is not our goal.

A good case in point is the green iguana. Back when I started out information was scarce. And as it turns out, most of it was wrong.
We were told to treat them in certain ways, so we did. And many of them lived to a ripe old age of 5-6 years. But many even less.
Of course this is an animal that has a life expectancy of 25-30 years! Once we got the knowledge of what was really needed they began to live longer and longer. I have heard of 20-25 year old igs and even one that was 32!
Treating the animals properly made a big difference.

Your friend can dance around the facts all he wants but putting his 4-5 years of experience over experts and naturalists with 25-30 years of experience, or even more is just not realistic.

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

He wont listen to me to come to the site...he says hes had them for a longtime and he takes them into the vet if anything ever happens etc etc..so hes quite ignorant at the moment lmfao.

Unlike me though, he can afford the vet bills..thats why all I got is a leo. Good thing or else id be a pack rat like him.

Thanks for the tips merlin, and I understand what you mean. Its my friend that doesn't.

Re: Just Got a New Leopard Gecko.

Updates on my leo:

He seems to be gaining a little weight, good sign , but hes been eating like a maniac..just this afternoon, I threw in about 10 crickets, he ate 8 of them in the first 5 minutes. So I decided to take out the last 2, because I don't want him over eating.
Lol hes a little cow.
