Leo Apetite...

Good lord! I just got 6 Leopard Geckos at the St. Louis reptile show Saturday morning. They spend all their time in the rock dens I got them. I have put in probably 10 crickets all together since then, and noticed I didn't see any walking around. Well I'm scheduled to the pet store tomorrow anyway, so I figured I would just see if they would eat in front of me, so I dumped them all in...about 20-25 left. I've never seen a lizard so small eat like that. Even the three smaller ones just wouldn't stop. It's so cute, though.

And just for anyone's info, 3 are smaller than the other three, so I have the smaller ones together, and the bigger ones together, so there will be no bullying. I am heating the smaller ones more, and trying to feed them a little more, hoping they'll catch up.

Anther question...how long does it take Leopard Geckos to warm up to you to where they'll let you hold them? I tried yesterday, and I got bit. I got bit the day I got them, too...Neither time was it enough to grab very well...but it's the principle of the thing. I know lizards take some time to trust their owners/slaves, but I haven't heard a time frame estimate with Leopard Geckos.

One reason you havn't heard a real accurate time rate is because there isn't one. Leopard Geckos all have different minds and they will usually catch on that you are not going to hurt them after awhile. The truth is though, they some times never do!

I have a leo that is about 2 years old right now and I have had him/her since about probably he was a month old. He still is very aggressive towards me and almost always bites at me. Not to mention the hissing and unstoppable loud clicking noise he makes when my hand is on him.

That may scare you but Leopard Geckos will generally warm up to you within a year. Though I also have had Leopard Geckos take longer to let me pick them up without the stress noises and running and squirming...

Haha there's nothing like baby lizards to eat you out of house and home!! Glad they're eating so well though, that's a great sign of good health!

We have had our two albino x tang ct's for about 3 months now and they are really starting to warm to us. At first they ran away and would not be picked up, and were very skittish, hating to be touched. Never hissed or bit though. We just persisted and keep picking them up firmly but gently, and they are starting to get used to us now. Can still have little attacks of being flightly but I trust them to let them walk all over me now, whereas before I wouldn't take my hand off them incase they decided to do their 'suicide jump' as I call it

Our little blizzard was unusually tame when we got her,. she has become a little more warey now, but that may be due to her being moved to a bigger tank and taking time to adjust to it. Just persist with picking them up quite firmly but be gentle not to have too-tight a grip on them. They really calm down if you hold them upside down, not that i'm suggesting you do this but we have noticed from looking at their undersides for pores.

Another trick to slowly gain their trust is to offer them wax worms from tweezers or by hand. You don't want to feed them too many that they will only eat them, and they are a very fatty food, but as yours are still young they can have them more often than an adult. Once they learn what they are they will be begging for you to give them some! And once they learn that you are the nice person that gives them treats they will begin to learn that you are not going to hurt them.

Good luck, and watch your live food bill rocket!!

Yeah I have had my Leopard Geckos for a few months and the one that was relatively tame has changed and become the "squirmer", and the one that would screech and bite me is very much a mush now. They are both about 6 inches long. Yeah I know bout the dens I got my 2 a Tunnel thing by Exo Terra yesterday and they love it.

A less traumatic taming method is to put your hand in the tank for a few minutes every day. Eventually they will be overcome with curiosity about the "big scary monster" and come out for a look. My male, who can be an absolute terror, was being so calm the other night he was letting me fuss with his tail and basically do whatever I wanted with him so long as he got to sit on my warm lap. I have one adult and two subadults and I'd say each one eats roughly 20-40 crix a week.

Good suggestion, I myself have tried the "Hand Method". Another way that works for me is just put your hand in the tank or enclosure with your palm up. The Leopard Geckos are so curious and climb up sometimes.
