I recently noticed that Jasper's mouth looks different. It doesn't completely shut, and you can see his gums. On the left side, it looks like a few of his teeth are sticking out of his mouth. He still eats fine and acts healthy. His gums do look inflamed but he doesn't have puss or saliva coming out of his mouth. Here's a few pictures. Hopefully they help.

Looks like it could be early stages! You should clean it out with a correct solution...(not sure what you can legally purchase in the states without a vet prescription though)

It does look like the beginning of mouth rot, you can clean it out with a diluted Baytril solution, just make sure not to get it in his mouth or let him swallow it, what I would do is put some on a Q-tip and clean it that way, then you can put a triple antibiotic ointment on it, you can do this for a few days but I suggest a Vet trip, the Vet will give you an ointment that will more effectively kill the bacteria causing it, allowing it to heal. If you don't take care of it now it will progress further and cause a lot more damage long term.

And often mouthrot is a secondary infection caused by something else. If you cure the mouthrot without addressing the underlying problem, it will return.

How diluted does the solution need to be? And I definately would visit a vet, but the problem is that there aren't any herp vets anywhere near where I live. About two years ago my brother got a chameleon that had some problems, and we drove about two hours to a vet and they still didn't know much at all about reptiles. But if my gecko doesn't get better soon I'll have to take him to a vet.

If you don't get the source of the original infection treated then treating the mouthrot will most likely be useless or may just keep coming back since mouthrot is usually the result of another infection. The only way to figure out what the original infection is and where it is is to get it to a vet as soon as possible before the mouthrot gets any worse.

Mmmm...I agree with Merlin and DM, I'm sorry I completely left that out..get your little one to a Vet so he can find the source of the original infection and it can be treated as necesary

Thanks for all the help. I have one more question though. Today his mouth looks a little different. Around the outside of his mouth it isn't as bright pink as it was. It looks a little dryer than it was before, but it doesn't look dried out - it's just not as moist. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
