Re: Check Out My New Set Up

I just wanted to hop in and say that if you really want to use sand, try getting some play sand from a hardware store. It's cheaper, I think, and much less dangerous that calci-sand, or any other man made chemical sands. (Pretty much anything you find in a pet store).

Or, of course, you can avoid it altogether.

I LOVE the rock shelf you've got there. Simple and clever. And it really makes the cage look super clean.

Edit: Oh wait, *baby* geckos? Yeah, ditch the sand altogether at least until they're older. I went back up and re-read your post and that caught my eye. They are much more at risk for impaction and having respiratory problems from the dust. Best to keep them on something like tile or paper towels.

Re: Check Out My New Set Up

I find tile to be quite a bit appealing to me. It only cost me about 5$ and will last the rest of the viv's life. I was also tricked into buying calci-sand when I got my leo. Here's a pic of my viv.

Did you happen to get that reptile shelf dish at the Reptile Super Show? I saw the vendor their and that was the first time I had seen them. Almost picked up a couple for the Crested Geckos.

Re: Check Out My New Set Up

I did get the shelf at the reptile super show...... I was there last Saturday and the best reptile show I haver ever been to. I did have bad luck though... I bought a SHTCT Leo fro $20 as soon as I heard the price I had to buy her. As soon as I got home I was going to put her in her new cage when I realized she had a broken leg!
I dont want to get in to it so much I'll start another thread with pictures.

Nice setup. I would have gotten that opening rock for my gecko, but they had sold out at Petsmart.

Well that is a great set up. Look how small my gecko is, and look at his cage/habitat.

Re: Check Out My New Set Up

Leopard gecko I would get some more hiding places and cover in there.
Your leo is probably feeling very exposed and vulnerable.

Re: Check Out My New Set Up

I would also get rid of the thermometer you have there and get a digital one. Those little dials are not reliable at all! You should also get a larger tank. That looks like a 10 gal and there is no way to get the proper temp gradient for a leo in a 10 gal.

Re: Check Out My New Set Up

And put your thermometer down in the area where the lizard is.
Heat rises.
