Vermiculite

I've been trying to breed my leopard gecko for the last three months and keep losing the eggs. I was told to use vermiculite but cannot find any besides premixed with cement. Can anyone tell me where to find just vermiculite? Please hurry because she might be a week early this time.
Thanks

Re: Vermiculite

A lot of times you can get just plain vermiculite at a garden store. I see you are in NY places like Lowes and Home Depot often have these, as well as local gardening stores Good Luck!

Re: Vermiculite

You should try hatch-rite. You can order it online or ask your local pet store to order it for you. I have had a lot of success using it with leo's. there is no mixing you just pour and use. Just keep a small cup of water in the incubator with the eggs.

Re: Vermiculite

Hatch-rite is actually perlite with water added.

You can order vermiculite online at various stores. I know lllReptile carries it.

Re: Vermiculite

I got a bag of vermiculite in the garden dept at WalMart. I just added water and squeezed it until nothing could be squeezed out. So far 3 of 6 eggs have hatched succesfully ~ 2 of them are not due for several more weeks. Do you know that the eggs are fertilized? What did they look like ~ if they were denting they may need more moisture. If they were getting moldy, then cut back on the moisture. Good luck!

Re: Vermiculite

Vermiculite (as well as perlite) should be available at any garden shop. Its used as an ingredient in potting soil and many people prefer to mix their own.
