My New Lep

I have just purchased my newest leopard gecko. She is a 2 year old carrot tail. I have put her in the viv with my 2 year old male gecko. Hopefully I will have some babies eventually. I was a bit scared when I first put her in there, as Gizmo my older gecko was being rather aggressive, nibbling her tail but they have seemed to settled down now. I will get some pictures up asap.

Re: My New Lep

You should quarantine the female from the male for at least 30+ to 60 days to ensure she is healthy with no parasites.

Re: My New Lep

I agree. You should always quarantine a new reptiles to make sure there are no health issues. Plus it would have given her time to settle in. Now that you have her in with a male she will have to get used to a new enclosure with a cagemate. That may stress her out, especially since he was nibbling on her already. If he attempts to breed with her and she is not ready and stressed, it will add additional stress to her. And if she does end up having some sort of sickness or parasite, she will be in no condition to breed. You should have them separated for now so he's not trying to constantly breed while she is adjusting.

Re: My New Lep

I dont know if its the best idea to keep the female permanently with the male. If he is trying to mate with her it could cause unecessary stress and she may get injured. You might be better off just putting them together for a week or two when you want to breed them and then seperating them. Just my two cents!

Re: My New Lep

The leo has been quarantined for 2 weeks, I put her on hold at the pet shop so they put her in a viv that I had taken in to get her used to her surroundings. They both seem to be happy with each other now and they have settled down.

Re: My New Lep

Being in quarantine in a pet shop and at your home are two different things. It's quite possible that she could have picked up something from the pet store. It's been known to happen. Either way 2 weeks wasn't even really enough either.

I'd advise keeping an eye on them both for any strange or overly dominant or breeding behavior. It's not a guarantee that all Leopard Geckos will get along with each other. If she was in the enclosure by herself at the pet store she would still have to get used to new surroundings in your home now in a completely new enclosure.

Re: My New Lep

I have been monitoring them since yesterday. They seem to have settled down much better now, he is just getting on with his normal life and she is just getting used to her surroundings, Much better.
