Need Help Fairly Quick
I have had my leopard for about 7 months now and for the first time, about a week ago, I noticed his tail change in color from a tan to a whitish color and I looked at him yet again today and his tail is almost completely a whiteish color. I feed him crickets and mealworms, alternating them. I checked the temperature and it is where it has always been. 75 in cool and 85 to 90 on the warm side. I have not changed anything in the tank beside cleaning it daily and I am not sure if he is sick or if this is normal. He is, as I said, about 7+ months old and I got him when he was very young. He is now about 6 inches long from tail to tip of the head and seems to eat ok. I have jerassic-cal and feed daily still.

Re: Need Help Fairly Quick
He is getting ready to shed from what you are describing. Within the next 24 hours, he should be bright and vibrant again. Bump the humidity up a bit to help soften the shed. Typically when the whitish color is apparent, the humidity is a bit too low and the shed is slightly dry, which is giving it the color.

Re: Need Help Fairly Quick
Thanks, I was just nervous because he has never done this in the past and was not sure if he was sick. I will increase the humidity higher although right now I am sitting at around 75-80% in the tank. I will increase it more. Meaning more misting.

Re: Need Help Fairly Quick
If you are at 75%, don't bother. Thats plenty high enough. Do you have a moist hide in the enclosure? If you don't, you should add one.
The gecko has shed many times while in your care. They eat the shed, so you likely just haven't see the "before" phase. Take a picture if you can. |

Re: Need Help Fairly Quick
I do have a moist hide. I have only seen him after a shed when I first got him and he was having trouble around the toes, so I guess this is the first time that I have seen him like this.
