Is He Going to Start Shedding?

A few minutes ago, I noticed a peculiar thing - after I fed my leo, he went into his moist hide. After a few moments he twitched a few times. His skin did look a little pale now that I think of it.

Is this a sign that he is going to shed soon or is he just looking for the quickest way to get away from me, which the moist hide was the closest escape.

Sorry if this was a dumb question, I'm a beginner.

Unless his skin looked like this, I wouldn't count on it.

Re: Is He Going to Start Shedding?

It could be the beginnings of an oncoming shed. Usually when they shed their skin becomes very pale because its the old skin loosening from the new skin. The moist hide will help keep it humid enough for him to shed. Don't be surprised if you see him eating it though or if one day he is dull and the next day he is pretty again and you see no shed. Leopard Geckos eat their sheds.

Re: Is He Going to Start Shedding?

Thanks. I dont have any moss for a moist hide. Would it be dangerous to use wet cotton or paper towels as a substitute?

Not at all, I use a paper towel in Stunna's hide and just mist it every day. Works great. I used moss before but it was just to messy and didn't really stay damp for very long.

Re: Is He Going to Start Shedding?

You can use paper towels you'll probably just have to wet them more frequently than moss. And change them out if they start to get moldy.
