I usually just throw them in my leopard gecko's cage. Before they are all over the tank he usually grabs 2-3. Is it okay if I just leave the other ones in the tank, they seem to disappear after a few days and makes me think he's eatng them as they come by. The total I throw in are is about 5-6.

The problem with leaving crix in the tank is that the crix get hungry, too. They will actually bite at your leo if they get hungry enough.... Uneaten ones should be removed.

I've heard this before, but I have never seen this happen. Not that I don't believe you, but how would biting a geckos rough skin harm him? Also if a cricket were to bite him, wouldn't it be easy for the gecko to kill the cricket...?

It's not that the cricket will hurt him but more that it'll make him uncomfortable and stress him out. If you do leave crickets in there, leave a carrot for them to munch on. The gecko won't try and kill the cricket but try to get away. Think of someone that won't leave you alone and you can't get away from them for days on end. It would get pretty annoying.

The best way I've found to feed my gecko is by using tongs, it does take awhile to catch them but then you don't have to worry about hungry crickets and dead bodies to clean up.

The bites also have a good chance of becoming infected. And yes a cricket can bite thru the geckos scaly hide. You would be surprised what a cricket can do!
When I worked in the pet industry we kept bins of crickets to feed and to sell. Occasionally a lizard like an anole would escape and end up in the cricket bin.
They would strip it down to a skeleton overnight.

Merlin ~ ewww! I did have a batch of crickets chew through the plastic bag they came in from the store. They also chewed through some screen I had on their bin. They did this in a matter of hours.

I make sure that if my geckos don't eat all of the crickets right away, I put in a chunk of collard green or something to munch on. I like the tong idea, too, and plan to get a good one on my next pet-shop stop.

Merlin, I have an upsetting story that is similar. My pac man was stripped down just the same. I had left crix in there over night and they had laid eggs. Well the babies hatched and were hungry. It was very horrifying and I feel horrible about it.

I hear that if the feeding time is up and some crickets are still in there that you can put a potato or something in there and the crickets will nibble on that.

It's still a better practice to feed your animal outside of its enclosure. Better to be safe than sorry.
