Leopard Gecko
We just got another gecko and she is older, we think 5 yrs old. We've had her now for a week and we've never seen her eat. Is this normal? She is very healthy and seems very happy with her new buddy (another gecko). What would the first signs be that she's sick or something? Or any suggestions? I can't tell if she is just eating when were not around because of the other gecko in with her. I know he is eating, he is a pig

Re: Leopard Gecko
That would be the problem. You have her with another gecko. When you get a new animal, its a good idea to quarantine them from your other animals for the exact reason your post states.
If she were by herself, you would be able to monitor her food intake. If she has a parasite, you would be able to ensure the other leo isn't going to get it. You also have a single female with a male. He is going to eventually cause her a great deal of stress when he decides he wants to breed. The rule is to have 3 females to every one male, and they should only be housed together when you are trying to breed them. Once they are done breeding, they are suppose to be separated again. My advice would be to set them up individually, which you should be doing. For all you know, the poor girl hasn't eaten a bite since you brought her home. |
