I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

I have a male and female that I purchased seperatly and about 2 months apart from each other. The female was owned by someone in there home and was not with any other geckos. The male I got at a expo and he is a breeder. I have not introduced them to each other at all. Today I decided to build them both a new most hide with moss in it. Well my female has been in it all day and now there are 2 eggs in there. I have no clue how she got pregnant. What do I do now? I wasnt going to try and breed them untill next year as I thought this season was starting to close. I have no incubater and have no idea what to do with the eggs

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

Do you know for a fact that the female was not with any other geckos? They can retain sperm.

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

Not in the last 2 months since Ive owned her and the people didnt have any other geckos and had her for a little bit over a year. Well I have a heat pad on low and they are now in a plastic tupperware container on top and I got my digital temp probe in there let me check the temps in a hour or so and see where I am at. Can you leave them at 78-82F that would be the temps of my closet without a heat pad?

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

That temperature would be fine and would produce female Leopard Geckos. Leopard geckos, as stated, can retain sperm. Typically they don't lay unless they have been bred. Its very possible the previous owners had a male, and either didn't say anything, or didn't know themselves and thought they had another female. (Could have been a one time introduction. lol)

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

I did introduce them one time. But he just licked her side and started to wave his tail in a dance. However the didnt attach at any time. They thought the she was a he. I found out when I got home it was a she. She is still in the most hide and I took both eggs out. Do you think she will have more? She didnt even seem that fat to me at all? How long will it take for the eggs to hatch even if they do. Should I keep it most?

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

That's a pretty vague caresheet however it did come in handy, so thanks for that. However, I was wondering if a gecko can lay eggs without conception. Just like chickens and most birds can lay eggs every year. But if there is no male fertilization, then they just wont hatch. Is there a way to tell if there fertile. One of the eggs has a light pink/reddish patch on it and the other is pure white. I put a light up to the other side and looked thru it and see nothing. Any help, please respond.

Re: I Have Eggs and Dont Know Why

It can take a week or more before any signs of life become apparent. Do Leopard Geckos typically lay eggs without having been bred, no. I have owned them for over 12 years and have bred them for over 10 of those years and have never had it happen. They can be laid though and be infertile.

If they are no good, they will collapse and mold by the end of the first week and a half. If they don't, there is a good chance they are fertile.

I hope you haven't turned them upside down. You can drown the embryo inside if they have been developing.

That caresheet is a little vague, i will agree with that. Thats why I have been working on its rewrite. (Mooglebass has been watching the rewrite develop and can confirm this.)
