Getting Gecko Back To Health
Hey I'm new to the forums, I'm not new to reptiles though, especialy leopard geckos. When I younger, between the ages of 12-14, I owned and bred many reptiles. During the breeding season I had close to 250 animals, most of them Leopard geckos an African fat-tailed geckos. However before my 15th birthday my father made me get ride all of my reptiles.
Now I'm going to be 16 soon an I'm now living over my mother's house. Now I'm starting my hobby again with two 3 year old Leopards I saved from my little brother who didn't take very good care of them at all. They were in a filthy tank with calcium sand, no heat, no water and little food. They are both female, ones high yellow and the other is albino. The high yellow is in good shape but the albino one is extremely skinny, having shedding problems, and has a regenerated tail because the other one ate it's tail while they were still babies. I've already cleaned the tank and everything in it, got ride of the calcium sand, got a Under Tank Heater and nite time bulb to keep them warm, put a calcium dish, put a humid hide, gave them water, and now trying to hand feed the albino. Now hopefully she'll start to gain weight and I should probably get her some wax worms. But does anyone have any other suggestions on how to help get her back into shape thank you. |

Sounds like you are on the right track so far. Glad to hear they are in better hands.

Re: Getting Gecko Back To Health
Be careful bulking them up with waxworms. They're very fatty and are really only good as a treat. If you feed them both crickets and mealworms, they'll still fatten up, but they'll be a good deal healthier.
Sounds like you've got everything set up for them well.

Re: Getting Gecko Back To Health
It would be preferable to get the weight back on via good foods like crickets and meal worms.
Bulking them up on the waxworms is about as healthy as us trying to put on weight by eating nothing but chocolate bars. The weight would come up but we wouldn't be very healthy. ![]()
