Just a Few Q's About My New Gecko

Ok so I went on monday and I got my new gecko. His/her cage was already set up with tile and paper towels on the bottom, as well as a moist hide on the warm side, a coconut hide on the cool side and another hide in the middle. The warm side averages between 81-90 and the cool side about 70.

So my question is (and I'm probably just being a paranoid father) how long do you think it will take for him/her to eat? There are currently three mealies in the dish with calcium and he/she has deficated as well. I'm just curious because he/she is on the thin side.

Here is a pic of the set-up.

Re: Just a Few Q's About My New Gecko

I would give her a few days to adjust to the new surroundings. Don't handle her and try to leave her area undisturbed as much as possible, only going in to change water and spot clean. If after a week or so she still hasn't eaten or she becomes lethargic then you could always try the slurry mix. There is a recipe floating around here somewhere, but mix it up and just put a drop on her nose, she should lick it off... I would wait to try this tho cause for now she is probably just getting used to things.

Re: Just a Few Q's About My New Gecko

how about at night take the mealies out of the bowl and drop it about a inch in front of your gecko and he should see it eaiser and hit it. if the mealie isnt moving much he may not eat it. so what I did when I first got mine and he wouldnt eat mealies. my lizard was in his hide and I dropped the mealie in front of his door and then I used a small stick and was putting a little pressure on one side of the mealie. however the gecko couldnt see the stick I was using to make the mealie squirm. then bam he got it. i tryed it about 6 more times and by the time I got to the last one he was then out and trying to bite the stick LOL. better attempt then making a slurry

Re: Just a Few Q's About My New Gecko

As Shell said, its probably just stress from the new surrounds. Give it time to adjust and then see how s/he does. Offer food and if it doesnt take it, try again the next day. Dont keep at it the same day as it will add more stress.
