Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

As the title says, is expanded EE acceptable for the moist hide? I am suspicious that my leo may be gravid. What I thought were 2 females appear to be a couple I wasn't planning to raise babies, but if she does lay eggs I don't think I would be able to destroy them. So, I plan to give incubating them a try ~ if they do indeed appear in the tank, and they are fertile.....
I have a few bricks of EE for my hermit crabs. Currently there is moist paper towel in their hide, but I thought something else would be more appealing if she is to lay eggs. I have seen where vermeculite is good, and if that is better I will just get some of that. I also plan to make an incubator...... Thanks for any help!

I believe that will be fine to use. Make sure its on the warm side. If you need info about makeing an incubator, we have one list in HC Guides.

Re: Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

Ok, thank-you! I do have extra 10 gal tanks that I could set up like that ~ I have also seen a plan using a styrofoam cooler. Just need to tally the costs and figure out what we can budget. Thanks so much for the speedy reply!

Re: Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

I have used EE in my moist hides, I stopped because it was messy (coconut everywhere!) but it seemed to work just fine.

Re: Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

I have wondered about the mess ~ this is an issue with the hermit crabs too! Moshpitchick, what do you use now? Any other suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Re: Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

I use paper towels, but I have used spagnum moss in the past, it holds together better than the eco-earth.

Re: Is EE in Moist Hide Ok?

Thanks all for the input. I went to our local Mom and Pop pet store today and got a wealth of information, for real! The guy that owns the store called up a man who is a reptile goo-roo (the store owner admitted that he wasn't an expert on breeding). The guy he connected me with had really good advice for both the leo egg laying business and for our sick bearded dragon! He talked with me for a good 10 minutes on how to set up for the egg laying and what to do with them after, etc. He suggested sphagnum (sp?) moss with a layer of sand at the bottom. After all of the talking I forgot the moss BUT, oddly enough when I got home there were 2 eggs in the moist hide with paper towel so that eliminated my worries of what she might lay them in. I have a make shift incubater in a styrofoam cooler that I am hoping will work. Wish me luck ~ if it weren't for this site I would have had absolutely no clue that she might even be gravid. Thanks gazillions for all of your advice ~ I know I will be back for more
