Meet Bailey, My New Little Guy! He's a Cutie
Hey everyone,
Meet Bailey my beautiful 2 year old male leopard gecko. I got him last Sat. at Tampa's reptile show. I have had him one week; we are still in the "getting-to-know-you" phase. Bailey has been very alert and checking out his new surroundings. When I talk to him, Bailey will actually look at me. It is freaky, but cool!! My mice never do that when I talk to them. Half the time I'm not sure they even listen, or care.
The breeder told me my little gecko was rasied on just mealworms.
Last night I offered Bailey mealworms and he showed no interest in them at all. I figured that it was still early and he was not hungry. Bailey has got a nice plump body and tail so I'm not worried.
Tonight I tried offereing him crickets, he chomped down 2. They have to be actively jumping in front of him in order to get his attention. I think next time I'm going to try feeding him the crickets outside of the tank, so the crickets can't crawl under the newspaper.
One of crickets I went to feed Bailey; I was holding the cricket by the hind leg with a tweezer. The cricket struggled hard to get free. The cricket made a huge leap over to the other side of the tank, leaving its hind leg still between the tweezer. Ewww! That grossed me out.
I do have one question about the crickets. There are a few dead in the critter keeper. I'm not sure how I go about cleaning the dead ones out, without the others escaping. Any suggestion or comments?

Bailey's very cute!
I hate to say it, but I just leave the dead crickets in there and clean 'em out the next time I get a new batch...

Welcome to the neighborhood! Bailey is very adorable! Thanks for sharing the pics of him. Like Amy said, leave the dead ones in there, and be sure to throw some fresh veggies in to feed the crickets. You want to keep them healthy and full of good stuff so when Bailey eats them they are better for him.

Very cute, I love leopard geckos. Eventually when I have the space I hope to add one.
I agree with what was said about crickets. You want to feed them well so that your leo gets the good stuff.

Great pics! I was thinking about buying a cave just like yours. What size did you buy?

Re: Meet Bailey, My New Little Guy! He's a Cutie!
Thank you, Bailey really loves his rock cave. That is the medium size rock cave, its very easy to clean. I have paper towels inside that I mist everyday.
For the crickets, I have the Flucker's cricket meal as their main diet. I supplement with oatmeal or oat bran. I also got those orange cubes that Flucker's makes, they dry up within 1 day. I'm not buying those again, the crickets do eat it, however. The past 3 days I have given the crickets thawed frozen peas, I'm surprised at how much they love them. They actually fight over them. I'm sure they are much more tasty and nurtious than those gel cubes.
I kind of feel like the crickets are another pet, only they are dinner for Bailey.
I've realized that crickets have a high death rate compared to the mealworms. Some of the crickets look like they may be too large for Bailey, I have my reptile meeting this Wed. The ones that are too big I'm going to give to my friend who has got a Bearded Dragon.
