When you open your viv does your gecko flinch and get scared ? I've had mine since last monday and was just wondering if it will stop flinching ?

you need to give it time to get used to you. A week is not enough.

Liz is absolutely right. It needs to get used to its new enviroment. Also when approaching and taking the lid off, make sure you take it slow.

i agree with them. you shouldn't be worrying about handling him right now. he needs to adjust to his new surroundings. right now he is stressed out and afraid because everything is new to him and everything bigger than him he thinks will try to eat him. let him settle in. as he gets used to you being around he should start calming down.

Yeah, slow caution movements. Leopard geckos will get used to you but it will take some time. Just remeber you hand seems like a claw that is going to eat the animal, so it will naturaly hide or act scared. just take it easy and give it some time.

My Leopard Geckos get all excited when I open the top of the tank. They look up to see what I'm doing, because they expect food! They love it when I open up that tank.

My female Gecko ( Autumn ) to this day thinks my hand is food. She'll shoot right out of her cave, tail going and everything, and try and devour my hand before I can even attempt to clean, water, etc.. It's wicked cute, however, I would let the gecko be for as long as possible, just opening the cage for food, water, clean up, etc. They will eventually get used to their new home :]
