Re: Just Got a Gecko !!

Just leave them as long as tehre not dead he`ll eat them(maby even if there dead). Don`t worry about feeding him today though just wait a few more days and next time only drop 2 or 3 in there and see if he eats those before you give him any more. Also try mealworms, you keep them in your fridge, there cheap, lost forever and high in protein.

Re: Just Got a Gecko !!

Congrats on your new leo. It will take him about a week to get used to his surroundings so you shouldn't be handling him, it'll stress him out more.

As far as feeding, I would not leave the crickets in there for any more than a day or so. If the crickets do not have food in the enclosure or have not been eaten yet, it has been known that they will start to nibble on the gecko, and you certainly don't want the crickets nibbling on your geckos toes or tail or anything like that. it could stress him out more and possibly lead to an infection if they do enough damage.

If the crickets are still there from monday I would take them out if they haven't been eaten already. He may not be hungry from getting used to his enclosure or he may be somewhat stressed that the crickets are still there moving around while he is adjusting.

Good luck with him.

Re: Just Got a Gecko !!

You should how neat it is when they shed. If you are ever able to catch him in the act of shedding you should watch. They eat their shed and its really interesting to watch them do so.

Haha! It's not pathetic, don't you think every single person on here has tried to catch a cricket at sometime or another? But I usually place my hand down on top of them, like cupping them...If you're really talented and don't want to touch them you can try and snatch them up with tweezers.
Welcome, by the way. I love my little leo so much. You should post pictures

Re: Just Got a Gecko !!

the easiest way to catch crickets that I have found is to have some toilet paper tubes or peices of egg carton in the container you have the crickets in. the crickets will usually go to the dark places to hide so when you pick up the pieces or tubes, you can shake that into a ziploc baggie or something so you can dust them then shake as many as you need to into the feeding bin the gecko is in.

This is the method I use. Generally I shake them of into a cup, and I never hold the cup up over the edge of the bin, that way any that miss just go straight back into the tank for next time.

Re: Just Got a Gecko !!

Its still the first week i've had my gecko but theres one thing buggin me. When I feed him crickets he'll eat 1 or 2 then the rest go and hide under the log. Do I just have to wait for him to find them ?
