Changing the color of the carpet should not be a real big issue as long as everything else is still the same. If you compare it to those who use newspapaer, the patterns and colors are changed everytime we clean the cage.

While this may be fine with higher thought process animals like mammals and birds it isn't the best idea for reptiles. The problem is that with reptiles a total rearrangement is more stressful than stimulating. This often results in them stopping eating for a while until they get re-established.
