Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
This is the first time Sunshine has had this problem. I know she is much bigger now and can't really fit in her moist hide when full...so I have been doing moist paper towels under her log so she has that until I can get a bigger rock for her.
It should work! I mean I don't see why this would have caused this to happen? But her one foot has three toes that the shed is still on. Last night I tried rubbing it off and even wetting a q-tip and rubbing it off..some came off the toes...but still one toe has shed on it good..ad the others won't come off around the toe nail? I don't think it is cutting the circulation, but I worry cause I don't want her toes to fall off or something. Should I keep working on it? what else can I try? She was ok with me rubbing her at first but got fed up with me and was making some funny noises at me and I don't want to make her mad or hurt her which I don't think I was...I wasn't pulling or anything. Thanks in advance for helping =) |

Re: Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
you could keep working with the wet q-tip and you could also try putting her in a rubbermaid container or tupperware container with just enough warm water to soak her feet. that might help loosen it up some enough to fall off or make it easier to rub off with the q-tip. i'm not really sure what else you could do since I don't own any Leopard Geckos but those seem like the safest ways. maybe rubbing a little mineral oil into the shed?
good luck! hopefully someone else will chime in with other ideas they know of.

I don't have any experience with Leopard Geckos either but it sounds to me like Magician has some good ideas, pretty much what I was thinking as well.

Re: Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
well, I tried having a puddle of water on top of paper towels last night hoping she would go in and soak herself =) DIDN'T HAPPEN...so I will try the q-tip and if that still doesn't work I will soak her myself. I don't think she will like it too much, but she needs it off. Thanks for the help. I will let you know. I just hate making her upset
her little squeaks are hard to handle knowing she isn't happy with me. |

Re: Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
just an update. I used the q-tip and got the one and ahlf toes that were almost off anywas..off so it worked with that..but the last toes is pretty stuck on there? I don't think it is squeazing her toes still thank goodness, but the q-tip isn't budging it. I will try to soak her this time. I just hope she will still love me after
but it is for her own good! |

Re: Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
i'm sure she'd rather get mad for a little while then have an injured toe due to retain shed cutting off circulation.
i know I wouldhopefully soaking her will work. you might have to do it more than once.

Re: Shed Not Coming Off Toes!
This is an old thread but I thought I'd add what someone from a defunct forum told me a couple of years ago. I have used, rather than water, eye (optical) lubricant. It stays on the skin, is- I was told and haven't seen otherwise- harmless and soaks under the skin. It's a bit expensive for an ounce or two but it's far more than I'd need.Another bonus is that you don't need to apply with a Q-tip. Often you can just drop it on the feet. I've had to apply it around the eyes on his head once or twice and did that carefully with a Q-tip.
Since I had to do that I've always kept a humidity box for him and he prefers it msot fo the time to the dry cave. |
