Shedding Questions!
Hello everyone!
More questions about my leo Matilda.... She is getting ready to shed for the first time since I got her. She has turned all cloudy, but I am wondering how long they stay like this before they actually shed? Seems like she has been this way for a while now... Also, how often do they shed when they are full grown (4 y/o)? Do they shed all at once like a snake does, or does it come of gradually in pieces? And, yes, I do have a moist hide for her with moss in it - she spends a huge majority of her time in there. Thanks for your help ![]() |

Re: Shedding Questions!
Ive only had my leo for a month and she shed 2 times already ...it mostly comes off all together and then she ate it all.
It only took about a day or two to shed after getting cloudy. Hope this helps! ![]() |

Re: Shedding Questions!
hmmm...I have had my girl since 12/20/07...they did say that she shed right before I got her, but still...been a while! And, she has been cloudy for much longer than a couple days...not exactly sure, but certainly over a week! Maybe two by now!

Re: Shedding Questions!
Ahh gotcha...well that probably explains the difference there...Mine is 4 years old, and I am sure they shed more when they are growing. But I am still waiting to hear if the cloudy time is normal, and how often an adult SHOULD shed. I do appreciate your response, though!! Thank you!

Re: Shedding Questions!
Based on several years of experience and breeding success we have found that the number of times they shed varies with age and feeding. Generally the younger and more they eat, the more they shed. Baby leopards shed quite often if feeding well. You should see small white spots at first for a few days then the entire animals turns. We have never seen this latter stage go past two or three days (therefore we usually see entire process in about 1 week). A good shed comes off almost entirely in one piece although a lot of the time you don't see this as they are in their hide. They eat their sheds. Watch their feet to ensure that they completely shed or they can have problems with their digits and may need assitance so that they don't loose a toe. A most hide or spraying helps.
