Update #1
Update #1:
Okay as many have seen by the pictures, I'm trying to nurse an underweight baby leopard gecko back to a normal weight. My earliest vet appointment will be on Tuesday of next week. Anyways, I've decided to take action since he won't willingly eat. How could he resist a plump little waxworm?! And I made the chicken baby food slur posted by Moshpitchick about a year ago ![]() He ate about 1/2 tsp... which is equal to 1 1/2 ml. So i'm going to try giving that to him about twice a day until the vet visit. Other than that, I'm up for any suggestions about stimulating his appetite. I'll be keeping a constant supply of water, waxworms, and either mealworms or crickets available. |

Re: Update #1
I think you have the right idea with the baby food slurry. Keep offering it a few times a day. Never force it, but drop it on his nose so he will lick it off. Sounds like to me like he likes it.

Re: Update #1
I've never lost one on the slurry, it's a life saver, I swear.
Here's the slurry poster child: Seriously Ill Collard Lizard It brought her back from having 3 feet in the grave. |

Re: Update #1
yeah i'm really hoping that this will help get his weight up before the vet visit... or to at least delay the weight loss until fecal test comes back.
I also need to find some pictures of what a baby leopard gecko's underbelly is supposed to look like or maybe find some pictures of an impacted gecko so I can compare them at... because I dont want to rule out impaction... More than likely, I think it's a parasite... but I rather be optimistic... especially since I went back to the petstore when I bought him and saw how big his nearly identical cagemates got in this past month that I've had him. I also need to find a safe way to transport him to the vet's office. I bought a small kritter keeper especially designed to house crickets so I'm going to use that to take him to the vet.. but I just need to find out how to insulate him and keep the warmth in... Thanks again! |

Re: Update #1
Wow that's such a crazy story! I'm definitely goin to keep giving her the slurry! My suggestion to you... is that you patent this stuff!
I just really want my little one to bounce back... I'm so used to have very hardy geckos that will eat anything you put in front of them... so I really cant wait until she gets back up to that level. Thanks! |

Re: Update #1
for transport, wrap the critter keeper in a warm coat, Heat the car up BEFORE you take her into it.
IMO, parasites are better than impaction. Parasites can be treated with a round of antibiotics. There is no good way to clear up an impaction, and really bad ones can only be fixed with surgery.

Re: Update #1
Simplest winter transport device for your critter keeper.
Cheap styrofoam icechest. 2 liter bottle full of warm water or a handwarmer pack.

Re: Update #1
When is the last time you soaked him in some warm water? If you feel it "might" be an impaction then try that and stroke him gently from his chest to his vent, it sometimes help break it up.

Re: Update #1
I think thats why she is "thinking" its parasites. Cause she wants to believe that its the easier of the 2 to correct.
