Still Geckos
I have a fat tail, and a albino leopard, and we made a little cave for them under their water dish. They really weren't too active before, but now they have really stopped moving all together except slight movement to eat. Is this something they do in winter? I know they're healthy, they eat regularly and seem content.

Re: Still Geckos
Leopard geckos cannot be housed with fat tails, despite looking similar they have completely different needs. If you have one set up properly the other will suffer.

Re: Still Geckos
Oh, we talked to some people about them living together, and they've been together happily for almost 6 months now, they're both healthy and happy. I'm just wondering why they're all of a sudden calming down so much.

Re: Still Geckos
Also half of the cage is sand and the other half mulch, they follow eachother around and lay ontop of one another. The fat tailed seemed much more active once we got the baby albino.

Re: Still Geckos
Why are you posting under two seperate names?
That is VERY confusing! What sort of size difference is there in the two geckos. The AFT may be more active due to wondering if it could eat the leo! Just because "some people" said it was ok doesn't make it so. AFT's need more humidity than a Leo will tolerate. As stated, conditions that are fine for one can make the other ill.

Re: Still Geckos
The other name is my boyfriend, and these are his animals too so he likes to add his own two bits. The size difference isn't drastic, the leo is smaller but not anywhere near small enough to eat, and just slightly smaller at that. I might seperate them but they've been together for like 6-8 months and they love it, they're always together even though I know that AFT like to be by themselves.

Re: Still Geckos
reptiles are pretty solitary creatures and they don't really have need for companionship, they eventually will stress each other out and one or both will suffer for it. just because they have been together that long doesn't mean they are happy or like it. humans like to put human like characteristic to our animals and think that what we want to see is really what makes them happy but its not always the truth.
they really should be seperated. many times with two different speciest there are parasites or things that one animal is immune to but another animal could be completely prone to catching an infection or parasite from somewhere non native to them.
