SMELL!

Hey,

My parents are saying that my Leopard Geckos are smelly. I dont notice the smell if there is one. What can I do to eliminate the smell. I already keep their cage super clean.

Thanks,

Hmm, what substrate do you use? Do you have a carpet in your room? Carpets that have not been shampooed can smell like a farm. Also any dirt clothes, towels, and clothers inclueding your bed sheets, bed, and bed items can smell really bad. Heres a great and very odd idea for you. Take a shower and run up to your room! If you're room stinks or smells kind of um odd. Something is stinking and probably not your Leopard Geckos.

LoL@MoLdYpOtAtOe

I have 5 Leopard Geckos in one room and I, nor anyone else smells anything funny. Possibly your parents don't like your lizard and want to complain so you think about getting rid of them?? Try a stick up smell thing in your room or one of those car smelly tree things. Good Luck.

Your parents should come and smell our house!! We don't notice it usually, but I'm sure others do, and if we've been out all day we can smell it when we come back in. It's called .. animals!! Ours are very clean, but there are so many I guess you just can never get rid of the smell. It's like having dogs and cats - the dog smell is particularly noticable.

I burn insense every now and then, and have windows open to air the house, and our animals are cleaned daily! (Btw, so am i!! )

I don't see how Leopard Geckos could cause such a stink, I bet they are using it as an excuse... get some nice air freshener and open a window. And show your parents how well you look after your animals and how much you love them.

Ha Ha Ha lmao, I found that rather funny

Is it your feet lol J/K

my Bearded Dragon tank sure does smell in the morning, as they have done a few poos before I get up, I give it a good ole clean and air it out a bit, as the heat makes the smell worse, and the smell is gone till the next morning, then its the same ole ritual again

That wasn't made to go out like that lol

I meant it probably is something in your room, but I still can see how it came out in you smelling too. I have a cat that sleeps in my room during the night, her litterbox which is always clean, and she sleeps on my bed. Weekly washings of everything is required for my room to stay nice and stink free... Oh and I do leave my towels and dirty clothes on the floor once a week. Something like a religious act I guess? Kind of how I got the idea yehknow?

I know you didnt mean anything by it, it just sounded funny lol, but I know what you meant, its like rachel aka bitis said, when you come in out of the fresh air and you can smell animal odours lingering what you dont smell when around them all the time

well, my lizards don't actually give off much of an odor, unless I put my face right up to the enclosure after I let it go a bit too long without cleaning..... what stinks, is the cricket tank. whoooo-weee!!!!

what do you use for substrate by the way? i know when my old roomie used cardboard for her iguana, well, wet cardboard is a stinky thing...... cardboard with urine and feces soaked into it, is even worse. i found when I used "lizard carpet" in the enclsoures, that the smell was stronger at cleaning time. i now use paper towels, which seems to have cut down on the funk a bit. easier to clean too....

could very well be your folks just think animals=stink so they comment. maybe they aren't really too fond of your critters as said and thats theyre subtle way of expressing that.

Oddly enough, my two Leopard Geckos do not smell until you put your face directly inside and inhale. I noticed that smell never goes away even in their brand new enclosure I bought for them. But no Leopard Geckos are not suppose to give off an odor. Oddly enough check the mealworms because I noticed that mealworms give off a very foul odor...however they are very foul insects. I also noticed that you leave the feces in their cage for a week (I'm only human) then that does give off a very low smell. Other than that I would check your laundry and clothes lying around...JUST JOKING!!!!!!! If push comes to shove then you can always throw a ton of air freshners in there and when you're parents are coming mist the air with spray...they won't suspect a thing. LOL
