Pregnant?

I noticed that my midnight blizzard lizard, Shadey, has been gaining weight over the past few weeks. She has always been kinda small compared to my normal leo, but she recently bulked up, developed a large belly, and is weighing 50 grams! She usually weighs about 28 grams. I thought that I had two females, but now I'm not sure.

Does anyone happen to have any pictures of a pregnant leo?

Gaining weight does not mean a female is gravid, and it could have been a growth spurt. Also this site covers what will happen to a eggbound leo. 50 grams is not a good weight for a leo to even lbe pregnant. How old is your gecko anyways?

Shadey

About two years. She may be stunted due to the poor conditions that almost killed her before she was handed over to me. She was given to me half dead with two other Leopard Geckos in the the same condition; It's really a long story that I'd rather not get into right now, but to make a long story short, two out of the three lived and I've had them both for about 2 years.

This picture is from a few weeks ago but it should give you a better Idea of what she looks like. Her belly is a bit larger now.

Hello,
I personally will not breed a gecko that is not at least 55 grams. I actually prefer them to be closer to 65 grams. (I have bred at 45 with a female that just wouldn't "bulk up" like the rest.)
To say that 50 grams is bad for a Leo, whether pregnant or not, is inaccurate. I have bred Leopard Geckos now for around 6 years or so. For me, a breeder that weighs less than 45 is not good.
Whenever anyone is in question with the gravid state of their reptile, they should always treat the reptile as if they were indeed gravid. That means that an appropriate and suitable egg laying box should be provided. It also means that the reptile should be handled less and extra caution should be taken to help alleviate any unneeded stress. That includes separating cage mates that are questionably the opposite gender.

Thanks Rich. I have been treating Shadey as if she were gravid. That is why I don't have a picture of how big she is now. I've provided a rectangular Tupperware container with a hole cut in the side full of wet sphagnum moss, just like what she uses for shedding, and I've been keeping the tank covered, except for a portion of the top for air circulation. However, I did not think about separating my geckos. Shadey has always been the more aggressive of the two, but I'll see about separating them.

She weighs 50 grams. I always thought that I had two females, but I could be wrong, because one of them looks like she's either pregnant, or developing a beer belly.

I don't know about other people who have Blizzards on here but mine is certainly small than my other geckos that were bought around the same time. She's got a nice fat tail but she only weighs 38 grams while my others are all over 55

Hey Geordigirl, can you post any pics of your Blizzard? I rarely come across anyone else that has one. I think they are supposed to be slightly smaller than normal Leopard Geckos. I know that mine eats very well, and she is certainly plump, but this is the most she has ever weighed, 50 grams. To me, thats heavy. But when I read about everyone elses Leopard Geckos in an earlier post

how much should they weigh?
I was shocked to read that most peoples Leo's have an average weight of 60-70 grams. My Blizzard, Shadey, does have a shorter body from head to tail then my normal Leo, but now Shadey weighs more.

This picture is my most recent of her but it's about two months old now and she's slightly bigger and fatter these days.
