well I have a question

This is what our member has to say: It's not really a question, but I want to know everyones thoughts on housing 2 leopard geckos in the same enclosure. Thanks!...

Re: well i ahve a question

i think that its fine as long as the owner knows what they are doing, and the leopards growing up together would help.

Reptiles are generally solitary animals. In owning a reptile you are responsible for the welfare of that animal. I think that it is always better to house reptiles separately unless it is for breeding purposes. There are too many things that can go wrong, bullying, stress, an accidental nip that takes off someones toes, it's too risky as far as I am concerned.

Re: well I have a question

The idea of housing multiple Leopard Geckos together is fine in concept, but there are a few guidelines that must be adhered to.
  • The enclosure MUST be large enough so that each leo has at least 10 gallons of floor space EACH.
  • You must NOT house 2 males together. They WILL fight.
  • The Leopard Geckos should be roughly the same size.
  • A male and female should not be housed together unless you are trying to breed them. Once they have copulated, they should be separated again.
  • A separate enclosure should be ready for each leo in case one is being bullied or getting stressed.

Ideally, housing them indpendantly is easier. It is less stressful, easier to monitor each leo, and there is no competition for food so keeping everyones weight up is easier.

Re: well I have a question

if they're separate its easier to monitor how much each one eats and who is using the bathroom. if there were more than one together it would be harder to figure this out. and if one happened to have a parasite or something it could easily spread to the other one.
