Ok one more question (heating)

I have a red bulb 4 night, and a reg lizard light for the day, along with the under tank heating. But during the day the highest its ever gotten is 82, and it's usually 80. During the night when I turn off the white bulb The temp is only 75! On the package of the under tank heating it says that the floor of the cage will be hotter than the thermometor reads. The lizard (which is a baby) usually stays on the warm side of the terrarium. What else could I do to get the temp up, or is it warm enough? Also, It says online that the red light doesnt bother the gecko but at night the little guy usually hides under the fake fern leaves or in his hut on the warm side. Do you think thats because the light is bothering him or is it b/c hes shy?

I would ditch the red light and go for a blue moon light. What wattage is that bulb and what size is your tank? I have a 40 watt bulb in a 29 gallon tank and it warms things up about 5-7 degrees. my daybulb is a simple 60watt incandescent and it keeps things 7-10 degrees warmer.

If you have the Under Tank Heater on at all time, you actually dont need a night time light. They need photo periods as well so 12 hrs of light, 12 hrs of dark.

Re: Ok one more question (heating)

Your temperatures aren't too bad. 85-90 in the basking spot, but the cool side of the cage can be as low as 70, although you probably don't want to let it get quite that low. If you want to up the temps a little, you can try getting a higher wattage bulb.

The red bulb does bother some animals. A ceramic heat emitter would do better, if you need something to supplement the Under Tank Heater as it doesn't produce any light.

As for the "lizard light" don't waste your money. All it is supplying is heat and a regular household lightbulb will do just fine! At a lot less money. Try increasing the wattage of your daytime light.

That's because an undertank heater heats the ground, not the air. If you have a thermometer up on the wall it is not going to register how warm the ground is. This is one of the reasons we recommend a digital thermometer with a remote probe. You can move the probe around to see what the temperatures are in any given area.

There is also a device called a temp gun. It shoots a beam of light to a surface and records the temperature. I love them for spotchecking. You can even check the temperature of the animal itself.
